The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom "智慧" (敬畏耶和華是智慧的開端)

We commend people who handle things tactfully and are able to butter one’s bread on both sides. “He who understands the times is wise”, we’d say and call these types of people “geniuses”.

In a society that strives for productivity and gain, it would be no surprise that for the sake of achieving one’s goals, one would resort to schemes, such as lying. However don’t forget that ancient wisdom has told us that one can be “too smart for his/her own good”. It means that by using human wisdom you will always eventually miscalculate; you may even possibly overestimate yourself and get a taste of your own medicine.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10) This Bible verse reveals a type of wisdom that is contrary to human understanding. This author recognizes that man is incredibly limited and sees that human intelligence and wisdom is not significant.

Conversely, whether you have wisdom or not is dependent on your attitude and knowledge to the LORD. The Book of Genesis mentions that man originally had a very good relationship with God. Tragically, our ancestor was tempted by the serpent and ate of the fruit, which God commanded not to eat, from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (a.k.a. Tree of Wisdom). This action declares to God that man wants to be independent and does not want to rely on God anymore. Man sinned and departed from God; he thought that he was wise, despised the Lord who created him, thinking that by his might and wisdom that he could control his own fate. It was not anticipated that human life would be inclined to corruption, selfishness, and self-gain. Human wisdom has caused strife and harm, causing man to fall into incontrollable chaos.

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption – that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.” (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)

The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom "智慧" (敬畏耶和華是智慧的開端)

As it turns out, wisdom is no other than the Lord Jesus Christ who loves us. A truly wise person is one who recognizes that he or she is a sinner with problems in life and is one who only thinks of sinful thoughts. If we are willing to humbly accept the salvation that God has prepared for us, God will give Jesus Christ to us. We would then no longer live according to the original sinful life, but we would entirely follow the guidance of Christ’s life, and will be able to make wise and correct decisions and live out the will of God.

Those who see themselves as foolish and weak will are those can rely on God by faith. Perhaps it will be best to be a wise man that looks like a fool! May you also soon come to know the Source of wisdom and become one who is truly wise.
