There has been so much rapid development of the Internet and electronics that there is basically no longer any hindrance in the transfer of information. However at the same time, technology has brought about the issue of the development of corrupt thoughts. These corrupt thoughts include pornographic and violent messages or images that are all over the Internet. These things have pervaded into our daily lives. Wouldn’t it be strange if our morals and consciousness were not twisted by a large, daily consumption of filthy and immoral thoughts? You can see in the news every day that often a young person has committed various offences (or sins) and may have even destroyed his life because his thoughts were misguided while being absorbed into the Internet world. It seems that these issues can arise even because of the smallest of details.
The Lord Jesus wisely said: “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things” (Matthew 12:35). This verse clearly shows that we will naturally reveal what is filled in our hearts through our actions and words. The Bible says that we are all sinners. We are born with an inclination to sin. Adding onto that, our hearts are filled with sinful and filthy things because of what we hear and see. Not long after, our hearts will influence our actions and we can commit sins at any given time.
There is another verse in the Bible, in the Book of Psalms, saying: “Your word "祢的話" I have hidden in my heart "心", that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:11). In actuality, God’s word is the good prescription to remedy a heart from filthiness. As long as you read the word of God diligently and allow the word to enter into your heart, it will prevent us from falling into sin and from offending God or men.
“…and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3;15). God’s word is light, which allows us, who have been living in darkness and sin, to see our own filthiness, to repent, and to receive salvation and enter into light. Not only so, the Scripture continues saying: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work ” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). When we repent, do rightly, and love to read the Bible daily, then God’s living word, which is full in the power of life, will enter into our hearts to bring about a change. We will hate or abhor what we used to love. If sometimes we somehow want to fall into sin due to our weaknesses, God will also use His word to remind us of that, lest we fall into temptation. Furthermore, God’s word will equip us and allow us to understand what God sees as good. It will call us to live our lives with a new meaning and direction. It will also make us run towards the goal, so that we will not have a wasted life.
We should not just sit around doing nothing, allowing our hearts to be defiled and let it cause us to be pushed towards darkness and death. Today, God’s word is able to cleanse your heart. As long as you are willing to open your heart and allow God’s word to enter, you will then realize that another new, fresh, blue sky can be in your life.
