There are people who think that Jesus Christ has absolutely no relation to them. In actuality, little do they know that even if you are not a Christian, the days that pass by you daily is related to the Lord Jesus. As a matter of fact, mankind uses the birth of Jesus as a reference point for numbering years. The period before Jesus’ birth is “Before Christ (B.C)” and the period after His birth is “Anno Domini (A.D.)”, which means the “Year of the Lord”. As one can see, Christ and the history of mankind are closely related.
The word “History” can be deconstructed to form “His story”. By doing so, the word “History” becomes more meaningful.
“For by Him (Christ) all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:16). This Biblical passage explains that the world and all things originate from a Creator; He is a designer and an engineer, as well as an author: “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1) He uses all things and all ages to compose a great story, so that people may know His glory and power.
He created the world and began history. From that point on, He was not just a spectator that did not give any care to His creation. Conversely, He is the One who is in command of mankind’s history: “He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings…” (Daniel 2:21); “This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men…” (Daniel 4:17). History has witnessed many powerful rulers, many powerful kingdoms, but these could not overcome the wheel of time, and they eventually passed away. Only God is eternal. His will transcends mankind’s history and continues to advance. In the Bible, there are many prophecies that have been fulfilled in history. Furthermore, world events are happening as God had anticipated. As Revelation states: “He is the First and the Last”. History will certainly have run its course in accordance to what God has determined.
Not only did He create history and be in command of history, but He also participated in history. Jewish historian Josephus had confirmed that indeed there is a man named “Jesus” and He had appeared in man’s history. He had come so that He may become a “love story”.
The Lord Jesus was Word become flesh. He walked on the earth for 33 years. In the end, He went on the cross, suffered shame as He died, and thus ended His very short life. This story does not seem very fascinating and not very spectacular, but as the Bible says: “(Jesus) who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24).
Him being God, the Lord of all, and the King of Kings, should had come to earth and become an illustrious story. However our Lord was willing to choose humility for our sake. He was often bearing our sorrows and was obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. By doing so, He bore all the consequences and punishment of our sins; thus it allowed us to be saved and to enter from death into life.
This love story, the Lord Jesus, has turned around mankind’s destiny of eternal death and has changed our history of corruption. Friend, may you return to the side of the eternal Lord today. Allow Him to be in charge of your future and to compose a much more meaningful life story for you.
